Waterproof and highly resistant to wear: Vinyl

Water and flooring typically do not go well together. Especially in kitchens and bathrooms, where moisture is common, waterproof flooring is worth its weight in gold. If it resists wear and is cost-effective, then those are bonuses. If this resonates with you, we have your solution: vinyl flooring.

Sheet vinyl

Traditionally, vinyl flooring comes in rolls of thin material that is glued down to a perfectly flat subfloor. These floors have an attractive pattern that runs throughout and once installed, you have a waterproof floor. Moisture will not harm it nor will moisture pass through to the subfloor. Further, as cost-effective flooring, they provide an excellent option even for areas where there are no concerns about moistur

LVP

An option to traditional sheet goods is luxury vinyl plank flooring. Instead of a wide, single sheet of material, LVP is designed to look like a wood flooring made up of individual planks that lock together to form a waterproof seal. Once installed, you will have a floor with all of the benefits that vinyl brings but that looks like hardwood right down to the grain patterns and textures in the planks.

While some product lines are designed to be glued directly to the subfloor, other models are designed to be installed as a floating floor. The material is somewhat thicker than their sheet vinyl cousins, so they are a little more forgiving when it comes to slight imperfections in the subfloor. Further, they can be installed on top of existing ceramic or hardwood without damaging these surfaces.

In addition to being waterproof, LVP is very resilient to wear and tear that would come from an active family. The surface layer provides strong resistance to scuffing and scrapes and often if a scrape does take place, it blends nicely into the appearance of the wood grain found in the material. They truly are a durable and practical floor for any part of your home.
